Use the iBanFirst MCP with Hermes Agent
Connect the iBanFirst MCP Connector to Hermes Agent, the open-source AI agent from Nous Research, and ask questions about your wallets, payments, and FX rates in plain language, from the Hermes CLI, desktop app or any messaging platform it is connected to.
Before you start, make sure you have your iBanFirst Token ID and Token Password (see Before you start).
Requirements
Hermes Agent installed. MCP support ships with the standard install. See the Hermes Agent website for installers, or run:
curl -fsSL https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/install.sh | bashA browser on the same machine to complete the iBanFirst login. For remote or headless setups, see the Hermes MCP documentation.
Connect the MCP
1. Add the iBanFirst server to your Hermes config
Open ~/.hermes/config.yaml and add the following section:
mcp_servers:
ibanfirst_mcp:
url: "https://mcp.ibanfirst.com/mcp"
auth: oauthIf your file already has an mcp_servers section, add only the ibanfirst_mcp entry under it.
No OAuth client ID or client secret is needed: Hermes registers itself with the iBanFirst MCP server automatically.
2. Log in to iBanFirst
- Start Hermes (
hermes chat), or run/reload-mcpin a running session - Hermes prints an authorize URL and opens the iBanFirst login page in your browser
- Enter your iBanFirst Token ID and Token Password, then click Connect
- Back in Hermes, the iBanFirst tools are now available
Hermes stores the access token in ~/.hermes/mcp-tokens/ibanfirst_mcp.json and renews it silently. You stay connected for up to 7 days before being asked to log in again.
To trigger the login explicitly, run hermes mcp login ibanfirst_mcp from a terminal.
Use it
Ask Hermes in natural language, for example:
- "List my iBanFirst wallets and their balances."
- "Show me all payments waiting for signature."
- "What's the EUR/USD rate on iBanFirst right now?"
- "Every Monday morning, send me my EUR and USD balances."
The full list of tools is in Available tools. All tools are read-only.
FAQ
For questions common to every AI assistant (login, credentials, multiple companies, read-only access), see the MCP Connector FAQ.
I have trouble connecting, or Hermes keeps failing to authenticate
Reset the stored iBanFirst token and log in again:
Delete the token file:
rm ~/.hermes/mcp-tokens/ibanfirst_mcp.jsonIn the Hermes Agent prompt, run:
/reload-mcpLog in again on the iBanFirst login page with your Token ID and Token Password
The iBanFirst tools don't appear in Hermes
Check that the ibanfirst_mcp entry is correctly indented under mcp_servers in ~/.hermes/config.yaml, then run /reload-mcp or start a new session.
The browser doesn't open, or the login times out
Copy the authorize URL printed by Hermes into your browser manually. If you edited config.yaml while a session was running, run hermes mcp login ibanfirst_mcp from a new terminal instead: it waits up to 5 minutes for you to log in.
